Description
Presenting my recent image of Centaurus A (NGC 5128), captured from my observatory under urban skies this May. Despite the glow of city lights, careful planning and processing brought this fascinating galaxy to life.
📸 Centaurus A is one of the most peculiar and energetic galaxies near us, sitting just over 12 million light-years away in the southern constellation Centaurus. Its standout feature? A supermassive black hole — around 55 million times the mass of our Sun — blasting out radio and X-ray jets across vast distances. The dark rift through its bright core is thought to be the shredded remains of a smaller galaxy it consumed in a cosmic merger.
This galaxy is a radio powerhouse, visible in multiple wavelengths, and offers a rare close-up view of how galaxies evolve through collisions and active galactic nuclei.
Capturing the Triangulum Galaxy
This detailed image was obtained using long-exposure astrophotography techniques, collecting over 20 hours of data under dark skies. Hydrogen-alpha (Ha) narrowband filters were used to highlight the nebulae, while RGB filters captured the natural colours of stars and cosmic dust. The final image was meticulously processed in Astro Pixel Processor, PixInsight, and Photoshop to enhance fine structures and reveal the galaxy’s rich array of colours and textures.
A Unique Cosmic Masterpiece
This high-quality print of this Galaxy is more than just a stunning work of art—it’s a window into the cosmos, inviting viewers to explore the intricate beauty of a nearby spiral galaxy. Whether displayed in a home or office, this image serves as both a decorative masterpiece and an educational tool, inspiring curiosity about the wonders of deep space and the ongoing evolution of galaxies in our universe.
