Description
This refined astrophotograph captures the Moon at 66.6% illumination, revealing its rarely seen, naturally subtle colours. Though the lunar surface appears grey to the naked eye, high-resolution imaging and careful colour amplification bring out faint shades shaped by the Moonβs complex geology: soft oranges hinting at iron-rich basalt plains and muted blues indicating regions richer in titanium-bearing minerals.
Created from thousands of captured frames, each carefully selected and blended, this image was shot in colour with a dedicated astronomical camera through a telescope at approximately 1.5-metre focal length. This meticulous process preserves the Moonβs intricate textures β from rugged crater rims to the delicate shading along the terminator β while faithfully highlighting mineral variations that silently record billions of years of lunar history.
Formed over 4.5 billion years ago, the Moon continues to shape Earthβs tides and seasons, remaining a quiet, constant presence in our sky.
More than a photograph, this piece is an invitation to look deeper β a fusion of science, technique, and quiet cosmic beauty that brings the lunar surface into your living space. πβ¨
